Jello Worms

June 23, 2020 By wibadgercamp

Activity Name: Jello Worms

Introduction: Everybody loves a treat that’s delicious and it’s even better when you can use it to gross out other people. This is a project for a small group that can bring out the camp theme and make a nice snack for a hot day.

Size: 2-4

Supplies: 150 flexible straws, 1 package raspberry jello, whipping cream, 3 packages unflavored gelatin, mason jar, green food coloring, mixing bowl.

Objective: Project completion, teachable moments, hands-on work, healthy eating and creativity.

Description: First, combine jello and gelatin in a large bowl. Then pour in 3 cups boiling water and stir until all gelatin is dissolved and place in fridge for 20 minutes. While the mix is cooling, stretch all straws so they are straight and fully extended. Place all straws in the mason jar with the bendy end facing down. Add ¾ cup whipping cream to the jello mixture and stir until combined. Next use a measuring cup to pour the mix into the tops of all the straws (NOTE: Go slow because it can cause the mixture to erupt if you go too fast). Leave the straws in the fridge for 8 hours. After that, take them out and run each straw under warm water for a few seconds. You can then pinch the straw starting from the end that is not full of jello and push down to pop the worm out of the straw. You have to do this for each straw. By the end, you’ll have a bowl of edible worms.

  1. Start by laying sticks out in front of you and plan the design. You can use the tape to create lines and designs on the stick in which you will paint on the sticks.
  2. Paint your design and let them dry. Make a bunch of colorful pieces of work. Once done with that you can use yarn and wrap it around the stick and in different locations.
