The 2007 Christmas Telethon was held Saturday, December 1st, from noon to 10 p.m., in the lower level of Pioneer Tower on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus. It raised over $64,000.

The Christmas Telethon is currently seen in over 30 communities in Southwestern Wisconsin and northeastern Iowa. The money raised, helps provide camperships to individuals with disabilities, and gives them the opportunity to attend Wisconsin Badger Camp.

In 1973, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville presented the first Christmas Telethon in support of Wisconsin Badger Camp. It was organized as a hands-on practical learning experience for broadcasting students. A core team, consisting of seven student under the direction of the Executive Producer, is responsible for the production. The team, along with many volunteers, plans, organizes, and produces the Telethon.

In 1987, the Telethon began to solicit corporate sponsorships, donations of $1000 or more. Since the first corporate sponsorship, these donations have become a valuable part of each year’s program. The Telethon features local talent acts, live interviews, a live call-in auction area, and video packages produced by students from UW Platteville.

UW-Platteville educates students to be well-rounded individuals, conscientious citizens, as well as skilled professionals. Throughout a history of growth and change, the overriding goal of the Telethon has been to inform individuals at the University and in the surrounding communities about an often neglected segment of our society, citizens with disabilities. The students involved in the Telethon apply their broadcasting, marketing, public relations, accounting, and production skills as well as practice social responsibility.
